We here so much about carrying a semi-auto with a revolver (usually a J frame) as a BUG. Has anyone else considered of using a revolver (.357 mag) for a primary with a semi for a BUG, if things went that far. I used this concept with a 27 and a 1911 in the field.

Never really considered it. Sounds interesting. Shows your thinking outside of the box though...I like it!

Gloves, I usually carry my G17 as a primary and my J-frame as a BUG. Under the "roving gun" concept there are certain circumstances where my J-frame becomes my primary.

While seated in a car the J-frame is much more accessible appendix carry.

When I transfer the J-frame to pocket carry for "hand on the gun" option. I usually do this for parking lots after dark.

Like Sweatnbullets, I'm known to carry the bug 357 snub hammerless as my primary in the 110-118 degree range in the summer months here, usually appendix carry as well.

When the bug does become the primary, I carry a NAA380 auto in a wallet holster and it can be fired that way without removing it:)

On those days, I'm waiting for someone to demand my wallet, but it won't ever happen just cause I'm ready for it.:D

Brownie,
Those type of holsters are cool. I had a buddy who worked a one man night traffic car. He had one built into a custom leather cite book cover for a H.S. .22 mag derringer. He would approach with his cite book in his hand with a finger on the trigger.

You know, I've never really thought of a difference between a "primary" and a "BUG" (gawd, I despise acronyms like that). I tend to look at it as "I have this gun, and I also have this gun".

My reasoning comes from an affection for the .357 mag over other things. In most cases six would be enough, but if not the semi eleminates reloading. Sort of an L.A., N.Y. reload.

The difference to me is which would/will be used primarily and which would be the second choice.

The options are limitless.

I also like to keep it straight in my mind. When the snubby becomes the "go to" gun, I make a mental note of it to verify it's place of importance.

Seated, the shirt is lifted out of the seat belt for easy access.

Hand on gun, the hand goes to the gun.

I resemble that statement:)

I did some thing like that for a couple of years in one department ,, that had a funny BUG requirement,, Carried my 27 or the COlt 357 primary and a COlt 1903 32 pocket as a BUG, used to use a swiss file and flatten the nose a little on the 32's feed fine;)

I've carried my 5in. 27 as a prrimary along with a ppk or something else as a bug. Roundeyesameria do you prefer drop gun instead?:D I would carry the 27 if I thought I had to shoot through a car or at distance. I used it as my M1 Carbine. As you know it ain't easy to hide a 5 in n frame so I don't carry it much any more but I do have a pancake for it so now I just might.

JM,
Funny you mention the 357 as a long distance solution sir.:D

I was called late at night on more than a few ocassions to bring my 4 inch model 13 bull barrel to a scene for exactly that same reason [ to cover an operatives butt ].

Usually occuring around the docks or from a rooftop overlooking an alley or on some fire escape about 5 stories up [ only because a longarm could not be hidden on the way to the top ];)

My first wife could not appreciate the 12-2am calls to bring the 357 unfortunately.

That 3.5 inch model 27 would be a lot of fun to have along for the ride as well. It's got to be one of the best setups I've handled myself.

Personally, I only carry one handgun. I can however, see the need for a second or backup, if you will.

I always wondered about "mixing-N-matching" though. It seems to me that if one is going to carry two handguns they would want them of the same basic type. Ideally the exact same type would make the most sense I guess.

Then again, no matter what your primary arms is, a DA revolver as a second is an easy transition to make.

I have carried a 2 1/2" Andy Cannon Model 19 as my primary with a Beretta Model 85 .380 as a BUG.

NOTE: I still don't feel undergunned carrying a K-Frame magnum!
