I'm suffering from the need to have a new pistol in my hands- I have alot of experience with Glocks and currently have a G19 & G23.
I'm looking for something small and good for summer carry. Any opinions on the following:
G27 (.40s&w can use my current mags)
G30 (.45acp- a step up in punch)
S&W M&P .40compact- similar size to the G23 or 27, different platform, still "combat tupperware."
I have a Springfield EMP that I like alot, but it has developed a problem with the firing pin, and I'm shipping it off for work. I dont know if I'll be able to trust it upon return and may sell it off.
Thanks in advance!

I had a 27 for about 10 years or so and just sold it to a friend. It shot well but I noticed some people had trouble shooting it. I could hit a chunk of wood 6" in diameter with it up to 50 yds or so. I have a 17 so I purchased a 26 to match which is the only reason I sold it.
For deep concelement I like the PM9. It can be a bitch to shoot but inside 15 yds it is hard to beat for concelement and power.

I can't find a single thing wrong with the G23 - that thing fits my hand almost as perfectly as my XD-40, and it's a solid shooter.
But, in answer to your original question: I have to agree with Jim, I don't think you can beat the Kahr products for deep concealment / ultralight carry.

I really like my 23 also, I just have a tough time covering it in the summer when I tuck in my shirt. There isnt alot of difference with the sub-compact Glocks- 26, 27, 29, 30 but the handle is shorter and I thought it may cover a little better.

You're right about the shorter grip; it should cover better.

The shorter grip helps but the reality of the 26 &27 is their too fat. I can hide a 1911 about as easy as a 26. Small single stack pistols seem to be the best fit for me.

kyle bce;
I think when you get that EMP back, it will be just fine myself. Put another 1K through it then and it will show whether it can be trusted.
I have a 26 that I bought soley for the summer months out here in the desert, and don't carry it much for the reason Jim gives [ it's "fat" ] compared to other choices that are available to me.
The EMP holds 10, the g26 holds 11. The EMP is much easier to conceal.
The HK PSP holds 9, the g26 holding 11. The PSP is much easier to conceal.
The 26 will do anything the g17 will do, the EMP and HK PSP will perform along the same lines as the g26 all day.
I've had the G30, and a G36, both were great guns but not for me, and I'm a glock guy for the most part today carrying the G17 for most of the year. It's the heat of the summer that gets the 17 put away except on rare ocassions.
In the heat, I find the EMP or PSP much easier to conceal and actually prefer the PSP over the EMP as it does not require manual safeties be disengaged to get to shooting it.
My suggestion, give that EMP some time to prove itself. You are giving up one rd over the g26 which is acceptable if the gun hides better and shoots as reliably.
Relative the thread title: Gun Lust Again------ I can empathize with your dilemma. I've bought entirely too many damned pistols in the last 4 months because I suffer from the same malady. Working ocassionally at a gun shop doesn't help much in that regard either:D

I'm very happy with my Glock 27, one thing I did need to do was add the Pierce extentions to the magazines for a better grip.
Not only did it improve the grip, it also added 1 more round to the mag capacity (10+1 with).
As said above it's a great weapon for CQB, and as long as you realize it's not a comp gun it will never let you down.
It's my "go to" for CCW and daily wear at my gunshop, light, powerfull, and dependable.

Because, really... what's more important than that? :D

I shot the G30 at my local range- It feels good, but it's the same length and height as my G23, and wider to boot. So thats off my short list.
I'm not sure rhat the 27 would conceal noticibly better than the 23. Hmmm.
