I first met Tim Wegner who owns Blade-tech Tactical and Outdoor Accessories [ http://www.blade-tech.com/ ] many years ago at the National Tactical Invitational.
For several years up until recently, I tested folding knives from various commercial companies which were put up on a website which I'm no longer involved with.
I had an ocassion to test a Blade-tech produced Steve Tarani Kerambit Masters model which I had purchased a few months before that. In the review of that knife, I reported how impressed I was with the knifes characteristics as well as the workmanship of Blade-tech's product.
I subsequently received an email from Mr. Wegner thanking me for the kind words relative his companies execution of the Tarani design. One thing lead to another and Tim sent me two of his companies knives which were the "Pro Hunter" [ http://www.blade-tech.com/home.php?cat=296 ] and his "Mouse" [ http://www.blade-tech.com/home.php?cat=298 ] so that I could test drive them and write a review for each as well.
I had not talked with Tim since that time, which was only a few years ago. When Ron Ankeny posted his 2-2-2 drill and had used a kydex holster, I wanted to work with the same type of holster and try that drill when Steve got here with his timer.
I called Blade-tech and Tim was not available for me to speak to for a week. One of his people listened to how I knew Tim and what I needed. He gratiously offered to send me their Blade-tech Stingray kydex holster and magazine holder, it would be here by the time Steve would arrive so I could use it while training with him.
Upon receiving the Stingray I placed the Glock 1st Gen G-17 in the holster and it seemed loose, it would hold it, but it rattled a little bit, the fit wasn't quite right. Seemed acceptable but not something I expected.
That week I happened to buy a new Glock 3rd Gen G-17. I tried the 3rd gen in the Stingray, and it fit perfectly. I discovered the Stingray was molded for the 3rd generation glock with the light rail and thats why the 1st gen was a bit loose. I'm not sure if the 2nd gen models will be a perfect fit or not at this time.
So, Steve arrives and out to the desert I go with the new rig and new gun. The Stingray was ordered for the belt width I wear and it does not move around while working the range at all. It allowed me to "know" just where the grip was at all times, no canting either way, and no sliding on the belt. In other words, once placed where you want it on the belt, you can be confident it will stay put through hundreds of drawstrokes in practice or your gun matches.
After two days, not one holster mark could be found on the new Glocks slide from drawing and reholstering. The rig rocks, and it keeps the gun secured exceptionally well. Not only that, I was able to draw and fire with very good speed. The Stingray can be adjusted by two tensioning screws for your personal tastes in the guns retention.
I knew Tim and Blade-tech made great products and this holster did not disappoint me in that regard. I could have bought another kydex makers product, but my first thought when I needed/wanted one was Tim and Blade-tech. I made the right choice in choosing Blade-tech.
Here is a picture from Blade-tech's website of their new Stingray Kydex holster for your review. Thanks Tim, I look forward to speaking with you in the near future.
