Yep, y'all heard it. My new favorite 9mm is Kel Tec's PF-9.

Over the weekend, I purchased a new-in-box PF-9 from my neighbor. He bought it from a shop in Mesa, however unbeknownst to him...his wife decided he didn't like guns anymore. Being of the mind that it is better to be happy than right, he offered it to me for the bargain price of $200.00!

I bought it.

I took it to a spot in the desert not far from my home in the thriving metropolis of Florence with 300 rounds of various 9mm ammo, and a couple of target stands. It gobbled up 200 rounds without a hitch. Truth be told, I didn't WANT to fire anymore rounds out of it. Recoil is manageable, but not fun after the first 50 rounds or so. I shot Winchester 115gr fmj, Remington Golden Sabers, and a bunch of Hydra Shoks. It ran like a champ.

From a paced 10 yards, it placed 7 rounds (magazine capacity) into a fist-sized group, fired off hand. It did this repeatedly. Granted, I was really trying for some decent accuracy here, and not trying doubles, or shooting from a concealed draw for speed.

Fast work from concealment closer in, it put all the rounds in close vicinity to where I wanted them. I was basically using a flash picture of the front sight, and hammering away.

Granted, this little bugger won't REPLACE my Glock 26, 19, or 17 as a primary carry 9mm (I carry a Glock 37 in GAP as my primary anyway)...but it will be my new BUG replacing my older-than-dirt Smith Model 37 Airweight.

So, it IS my mew favorite 9mm!

Even at full retail, which seems to run around $250....I call this one a helluva deal.

Hi Sean -- sounds cool. Can you please describe the trigger pull?

Basically...eyes "locked onto the target" and as I bring my two hands together in a modified weaver while "thrusting" the gun forward into the COM of the target, the pistol comes into my plane of view, a very quick reference on the front sight as I press the trigger for fast doubles.

It takes a whole lot longer to describe it than it does to do it. I almost "feel" it rather than "see" it if you know what I mean. I mean, I KNOW I do it, but I don't really know when I am doing it. I have been doing it so long, it is just second nature to me. I hesitate to call it "point shooting", but it isn't truly traditional aimed shooting either.

I know the very act of pointing your gun at a target with a reasonable expectaion of hitting the point at which you are shooting via ANY means of sighting is "aiming", but it isn't the traditional sight picture that I would use for a shot past 15 yards.

I have practiced this from concealed carry for years upon years upon years...I am not a spray and pray guy by any means. I have just reached a point where I am pretty fast at this type of close in shooting.

The trigger pull can only be described as: Not horrible, and certainly better than a Sigma, or a VP70Z. It is a bit gritty and heavy, but not unmanageable. It seemed to smooth out some as I reached the hundred round mark. I didn't take my trigger pull guage, as I will be darned if I can find it since moving to the new house.

My carry Glock has a 3.5 trigger, and I don't mind a stock 5.5 Glock trigger. You know, as I think of it....the trigger feels a lot like a double action stroke in a box stock Taurus Model 85 .38Spl. A little long, a little stiff, and a little stack before let off...but easy to live with.

 I've had a vp70z, damned hard to call it a trigger at all IMO.:D

As to the flash picture of the front sight, I understand what you're saying here.

PF-9's trigger does take some getting used to and hopefully someone will come up with a way to lighten it and smooth it out. The one I shot was heavy and the overall trigger pull felt like it was tad too long. This caused the person that bought it to jerk the trigger at the very end.

He handed the gun to me and stated I can't hit crap with this gun you try. I was able to hit to the point of aim with it but in shooting a hundred and fifty rounds it wore a hole through the skin on my thumb. No mechanical problems encountered.
