It’s been awhile since I surfaced and first posted on this forum and after the holiday dust settled and we got relocated in our new home and offices, I wanted to announce to everyone our upcoming conference in Laughlin NV in May 2008.

The 2007 conference was our first year and it was a huge success! In as much as it started out as an experiment.

What we had was a full blown 3 day event, geared for training and networking and priced for the average man, police officer or military professional to afford to pay for it out his own pocket (like how most of us pay for training).

What we had was 3 days of intense training in disciplines ranging from firearms and tactics to edged weapons to tactical medicine. A large scale hospitality event, an authors book signing and a large catered banquet where we ended up raffling off a little over $22,000 in kit (rifles, pistols, even a 5 day hunt to Africa).

2008 we expand our format to four full days, more range classes (Trijicon military guys are running a rifle program among others), more classroom sessions and all for early bird registration of $190!

Our negotiated room rates are $27.95 weekday/$77.95 at the River Palms Resort in Laughlin! They even offered to hold the rates for anyone wanting to stay the weekend after the conference (A great way to justify the trip to your wives when they come too!)

We are sponsored by Law Officer Magazine, Crimson Trace Corp, Broco, Trijicon, and DPMS

I encourage everyone to check out the conference website and please consider coming.

www.warrior-conference.com

We are still taking attendee registrations and we are still looking for anyone else who wants to instruct.

If you have any questions email me or come by one of the 3 booths I am working from at SHOT and say hello and ask me directly.

I got to be honest, I was scared out of my mind to host a large event like this, but after the dust settled it was worth it.

The whole idea was to have something that I could keep affordable and make it worthwhile...Mission Accomplished!

in 2007 we had the US Deputy Sheriffs Association sponsor us and Law Officer magazine, with our help, Crimson Traces, First Light USA and Marvel International paid the way for some Gulf Cost Officers who lost everything in the storms to come, we will do the same this next year.

We had guys from all over the US, Canada, Africa and Sweden in attendance.

If you have any interest please let me know

All the best and have a Great and Safe New Year!

Brownie,

I'll get either an email off with links to all the particualrs or a snail mail package.

We just moved into a new house over the holidays and I forgot how much I hated moving and how much all your stuff expands when you move it.

Hope all is well and the New Year is bright!

Sorry for the delay, just moved into a new house (a lot more work then I remember) and this week I am in Texas at the TACPRO center teaching a group of Fort Worth Officers.

All correspondence and payments go to my office at:

5542 South Integrity Lane
Fort Mohave AZ 86427

and made to Khyber Training Symposium

The hotel is the River Palms Resort 800-835-7903, use group code "warrior" to get the negotiated conference rate for your room.

$27.95 for week day and $77.95 for weekend.

This is the same hotel for the conference and the range location is about 5 minutes or less from the Laughlin strip area.

Wes,
I would be interested in putting on a close quarters combat class (combined combatives and shooting techniques) at your event.

Sorry for the delay, I spent last week in Las vegas at SHOT show, the week prior prepping for SHOT and this week trying to get caught up.

Please send me an email with the class title and description and all your particulars and lets see where we can plug it in.

I have 2 and 4 hour blocks available, both classroom and range, so you just need to tell what you need.

I look forward to hearing from you!

All the best

Wes

Hi Wes,

Shoot me a pm with a contact number for you so we can talk when you get a chance. I haven't reserved the room yet, how much trouble can I expect if I hold on the room reservations until the last minute to see if another is going and I need to get a double room?

RAM

B,

Reserve the room you need and the room you might need... make sure you get the cancellation policy then at the last minute or as soon as you know for sure what you need cancel the room you don't need.

It is easier to cancel a room you don’t need (within the terms) than cancel travel plans or air fare because you can’t get a last minute room.

Just got back from the 4 day event put together by Wes Doss/Khyber Interactive Associates.

It was worth the effort to make this event, to say the least.

I'll be writing a review/some thoughts on the considerable training offered in the various courses. I couldn't get into all of them, but I got more than my monies worth.

Great chance to train in multiple disciplines and meet trainers and LE from across the country.

Thanks for putting this one together Wes. Well worth the effort to make it there.

More to follow.

Brownie,

It was great to meet you at the event... I appreciate you coming out to the CFS and Instructor Development sessions!

The event was a great time with lots of good people. It'll be on the list next year as well!

Rob,

A pleasure to meet you as well as garner insight into your thought process behind some of the discussions here and elsewhere on the net. Your instructor development segment certainly clarified some of what was being missed in the net discussion.

After I get back from my Flagstaff class this weekend, I'll have more time to gather my thoughts on the courses offered and throw up some after action reviews of the various courses/information offered at the event last week.

I'll be there next year as well, until then

Stay sharp

Okay,

I've come down off a busy training schedule for a few weeks since Laughlin, NV, and had time to collect some thoughts on this event put on by Wes.

Wes put some very good vendors of equipment/training and trainers on the plate this year. One was able to choose from 2-3 different classes running from 4-8 hours in the morning and afternoon. Some were repeated during the week, and some were not, so you had to pick them carefully if two you wanted were running concurrent in that time slot for which would be available later in the week.

Yup, Tuesday through Friday was the event. I drove in on Monday afternoon to find his recommendation of the River Palms was actually a casino on the river on the NV side of the Colorado river opposite Bullhead City on the Az side:)

Hadn't been to a casino in over 30 years, and here I was for training and staying at a casino on the 4th floor with a view of the Colorado river out my window. The Colorado is expansive in width, and the current runs stronger for as wide as it is than I would have imagined.

Checked in and hit the tables, of course. It was up and down all week on one of the blackjack tables at night, but on the last day, I made it all worthwhile by going big on the bets and in 20 minutes it paid for the trip and week there with the winnings. Smart enough to get off the table and go home, thats what kept it in my pocket.

Vendors were available all day in one conference room. Lots of para-military gear represented to outfit the LE and Mil type attendees including some very nice custom sniper rifles in devastating wildcat calibers; breaching tools and/or burning bars from a co. that has a homeland security contract [ one of the classes ]; medical classes and gear available in combat medicine maintenance kits as well as classroom on whats the latest greatest meds and how they are working in the combat arenas of the middle east [ that was very informative for me as my AO is the same as over there heat wise for the most part and it's inherent dangers ]; vendors who also demonstrated their products that I took were the XS big dot sights [ I like em and already have a set being installed on one of the g17's courtesy of the vendor who sent them to try for 2 months as a trainer myself and if I like em I get a big discount:D ]; Surefire flashlights were represented by Andy Stanford and one could get certified in their use through him if they took the class; Wes demonstrated and we got to play with the CT lasers on several handguns after dusk out at the range, I think they have their place in the overall scheme of SD; there were carbine/rifle classes which I didn't attend but heard from several others later they were good to go and much much more obviously over the four days. I also attended the gun retention/ground grappling for your weapon class sponsored by Benchmade knives using their trainers. This was one of the best classes I attended all week. Lots of physical contact [ oh the pain of it all the next day :( ]struggling to keep your gun in the holster and getting out from underneath the opponent in the most efficient manner [ very enlightening and something anyone could utilize not only in that setting if they found themselves on the ground fighting off an opponent.

I was able to attend Rob Pincus' introduction to the instructor development program as well as shoot 4 hours on the range and get a basic/brief hint of his current combat focus shooting program. The instructor development segment touched on his criteria to become an instructor for him. I felt the presentation was straight forward and clarified his own developmental idea for anyone who has interest in furthering his training programs.

The shooting portion initially covered a safety briefing so everyone was on the same page to start about his expectations from people on the line. We then went into basics of his program covering the draw stroke/presentation of the firearm that he feels is paramount to engage others and thus takes advantage of consistency in ones presentation of the weapon. From there we ran several drills utilizing various training methodologies. It was clear the drills were designed to develop ones combat focused skills fairly rapidly, and they advance the idea one doesn't have to be gun focused to be able to shoot effectively which, of course, is spot on with the premise of the current ITFTS program as well. They were different skills drills than I use, but those drills did get people to stop relying on the sights to produce rapid COM shots on individual or multiple threats. Movement was covered as wel. One drill required the students to move off line laterally and make a minimum of shots before covering a certain distance. This skills drill pushed the students to present and fire while on the move and be combat focused, not gun focused. Again, thats what we here also want students to be able to do on the streets.

All in all, it was a pleasure to meet Rob, getting to sit and talk with him several times over the 4 days of training to discuss the merits of different schools training systems, along with what he and I feel will and will not work well on the streets when the SHTF. It was well worth attending both the instructor development and short course of fire as it allowed me to see firsthand what he talks about in the gun rags and the forums and his ideas of what is needed to win on the streets. We're more on the same page than one would think reading the forums which goes to showing the written word isn't necessarily the best medium of communication. It was a pleasure to meet and train with you Rob. Looking forward to doing it again.

I'd say about 80% of the students were LE or current Mil types. Everyone was very personable and easy to talk to/train with. The Thursday night banquet was fantastic in both the company of the whole group in one room and the food provided all as part of the nominal fee Wes gets to attend this event. I won 260 rds of 223 in one of the raffles after dinner that night. One of the top prizes was a 5 day hunt in Africa, all expenses paid.

Speaking of ammo, a vendor there provided all the ammo for students to take classes all week. I had brought 2000 rds of 9mm and came home with more ammo than I arrived with, that was a real treat to the students who flew in and would not have had enough ammo to sustain them for the week. Very nice touch and totally unexpected [ Wes, please give us the name of that vendor/sponsor if you see this ].

Wes put on a great event, packed with solid information and equipment for those who go in harms way. Trainers were all professional and the atmosphere was very relaxed on the range yet kept very safe at the same time.

You can't beat the training and classes offered at this event for the money. Hell, I think the price to attend and the diverse skills you can learn from the vendors/trainers for that price is a no-brainer to attend.

The hotel for 4 nights was a total of $128.85, and thats at a casino on the strip, on the Colorado river. I've paid that when traveling for two nights off some highway with nowhere near the view and entertainment available to you like this event.

I'm going again next year, count me in Wes. Big thanks for announcing this event here which led me to attend. Don't hesitate to throw up any event you may be holding in the future.

I'll tell ya Brownie, that sounds like an event that took place in a dream.
I can hardly believe the hotel price. And blackjack tables to boot?

I'm afraid I'd never make it back home.:D

Wes got a great group rate for those attending the event Doc. You're right, I could have been in a lot of trouble at the casino with the blackjack tables so close:eek:

One could have rented water sleds and run the river, taken a tour cruise up and down the Colorado, just walked the boardwalk along the strip of casino's, or visited any of the eateries along the strip.

Lots of guys brought their wives to this event, and I don't think the women folk had trouble finding something to do to entertain themselves during the day.
