I played with a Sig220 Carry 45acp this morning. It had 150 rds through it when I was handed this pistol.

Here's a picture of the "220 carry" [ the one I fired was not two tone ], which is the commander sized gun to the full size 220. 3.9" barrel, 3/4" shorter in slide length, takes the same 8 rd mags as it's big brother 220 as the frame is the same as the 220 as well.

Included is a photo of what this gun can do at 10 yrds [ the minimum we could fire on this range today ]. Benched for groups initially with 20 rds, standing two handed rapid fire with Pistol Quick Kill [ about 4 rds a second ] for the next 130 rds produced these targets.

That target was placed on the same cardboard backer as targets used previously by someone, a few of my 45's went just out of the black [ the low left ones ], the black dot I'm firing at was 8" in diameter.

Overall, the gun ran as expected. A few failures to feed the 8th rd out of the mag with practice ammo, but with the Ranger T 230 standard velocity I carry on the street, no hiccups whatsoever.

It's a nice gun, anyone have experiences they'd like to share with Sig 220's?

I've had this one almost two months. I've got almost 1K through her now. With Jim coming out here next week, it'll get some range duty when we bang the steel plates one day, perhaps another 1K soon.

The trigger is smoothing out nicely, another 1K and it should be good to go for carry in the cooler weather. The 8th round not feeding issues have disappeared as well.

The 8th round not feeding issues have disappeared as well.

Update:

The 220 Carry is back at Sig in NH for the 8th round FTF issues which came back occasionally popping off 800 rds on the plates while J Music was out here last week.

While it's there, I'm having the Short Reset Trigger [ SRT ] parts installed. The reset is halved from the original DA/SA trigger. That translated to another round per second on a Sig so equipped belonging to a friend of mine.

Got the Sig 220 Carry back from Sig last Thursday but haven't had a chance to put it through it's paces.

The Short Reset Trigger [ SRT ] was installed and the reset is just sweet on this gun, now if it will not act up on the last round every few mags, it's back to daily carry for awhile.

Range report to follow

The guns shop is moved into the new building as of July 1 so I've got some personal time now to get back to some shooting:D

Took the 220 Carry to the range with 5 mags [ 3 for carry and two assigned practice mags ]. Put 300 rds through it without a hiccup of any kind. That's 33 mags of 8 rds [ fully loaded ] with one up.

The SRT [ short reset trigger ] is really something to feel. It reminds me of my 1911 trigger I had used for years in the various plate and pin pistol matches.

It's back to cleaned, lubed and ready for street carry now. I'll be carrying this one for awhile, it shoots very nice with little felt recoil.

Hey,hey. Good news.Glad they got that bad boy running like it should. We'll soon find out what to expect from those rangers, too.:)
Sounds like a really nice piece,B. Please don't go getting me interested in one. Wifey would slaughter me on the sacrificial alter.

We'll soon find out what to expect from those rangers, too.

I'm liking the 220, but like Jim mentioned, the first shot DA can be disconcerting to some people.

I just went to order more from Jerry in Fla. and saw that 50 rd boxes are now 35.00 plus shipping if he has any in stock. I read where until March of this year, he had been back ordered on the standard 230 grain ranger T's.

I think I'll hold off till the results are in before ordering this time.

B,when I inquired about some 40's for my son's USP a while back Jerry sent me prices on everything and I noticed then that the .45's were 35.00. Think they were about 27 or 28 dollars last time I ordered.
I got a good supply of Golden sabers from my Police Captain friend,as you know and I hope this exchange keeps going well. I get him some of the 9mm occasionally for his H&K MP5. He likes the RA9TA in that gun.Hope we can keep doing that as the nines still aren't bad. I'm hanging onto as many of the Rangers as I can. I expect the heavy Golden Sabre will do well also, but all the .45 is priced out of sight right now,as you know.

Doc,

I've probably got 400 rds of 9mm in 147gr Ranger T and just 50 rds of the 230gr 45acp in stock, but I get nervous when I don't have a couple hundred of my street loads.

Stay sharp, happy fourth of July to you and yours sir.

Awww Brownie... you've just got Commander envy!

While I'm sure the P220 Carry is a wonderful precision German machine, you really oughta find yourself a nice LW Commander and call it good. Go back to your FIRST LOVE! :D

I've got a 70's series CLW Commander sitting in the safe thats never been put in a holster and has less than 400 rds through her;)

It's just too pretty to carry after using the glocks for so long:D

I have to admit, I've looked hard at the Kimber LW mid size guns we carry at the shop too many times to mention as well. I know the Sig220 isn't a 1911, but it doesn't require any manual snicking to get into operation, and again the glocks have spoiled me in that regard. It would be very hard to go back to snicking, I'd probably forget at just the wrong time.

I will admit to wanting to carry that CLW commander often enough, but then I'd have to find another one for the safe right?;)

Nah, leave that pretty blued beauty in the safe. Bring her out every so often to tell her you love her. But find yourself a nice new rollmark Colt LW Commander XSE. The new Colts with the dimpled feedramps have a reputation for feeding EVERYTHING! Plus they are Stainless slide with an aluminum receiver -- perfect for duty down there in the hot southwest.

Snicking off the safety is like riding a bike.

I finally got back out to the range the other day after not having done any holster work for MONTHS! ACH! I had no problems with the thumb safety -- in fact, I even got down to 0.47 seconds quickdraw from my Alessi LEATHER IWB: Quickdraw practice: 0.47sec from Leather (http://www.camptechnologies.com/videos/steve/shooting/halfhip_quickdraw_baseline_shfc_20080723.mpg) (NOTE: to watch you may need to right click and Save As to your local computer.)

B,I've been snicking that safety a lot lately. And SNICKERING every time I do it.:D

Just watched the vid,Steve.Smokin' along pretty good, brother. I didn't see no stinkin' snickin' problem there either.

I put another 250 through the Sig Carry this morning. No problems whatsoever and I've just about nailed the 5 rds a second regularly with the new SRT trigger installation which I had put in while back to Sig to fix the last rd failure to feed issue.

Some more work on this one and I think it's going to get some regular carry time in the rotation. Not many make it to regular rotation out of the pile I have, but this one seems to be grabbing my attention more and more as good to go for that duty.

It's now had something over 1400 rds through it with 650 of those since it's been back with no malfs.

The SIG P-220R Carry was my primary carry weapon till the 1911 bug bit me.

It's a heavy gun to carry, especially IWB but it was a pleasure to shoot... and shoot it did very well! :)

Armed Infidel,

Welcome to the forum.

I really like the 220 Carry, and though it's heavy, it did well out here in the heat. Now that it's been back from Sig on the last rd FTF issue, it's been flawless.

Stay sharp

The all steel Carry Elite you sold me (above, when you went back to being a 1911 purist) is indeed heavy to carry, but great to shoot with SRT. Trigger a little heavy, but so smooth it doesn't matter.

The Carry R you sold me (that I converted to DAK) is not so heavy. I carry it or my Carry DAK SAS rather frequently.

Thanks to you, I now have FOUR Carrys, counting my Compact. Love 'em all, but I'm supposed to be a P229 guy!

I've read about last round feed issues with the Carry or new generatioin P220.

I only experienced the problem with one gun and just a couple times when new. All guns would hang up on last round slow hand cycling. They get better with use.

A little gentle polishing of the extractor, breach face where the round comes up under extractor, and deburring of the barrel and ramp didn't hurt. Mostly, it was shooting the guns that made them better. All guns now feed last and first rds. during slow hand cycling (half speed). Just an indicator I use to see if they're broken in.

Brownie, was it the extractor that was the problem with your gun?

Nnobby45,

Welcome to the forum.

Sig said they polished the feed ramp [ which I'd done as well ] and adjusted the extractor according to the service work sheet that accompanied it when I got it back.

Four "Carry's", in different flavors, nice.
