72 yrs. old,bad right foot, bad eyesight. Been a shooter most of my life but always with rifles. Had a few handguns around but didn't shoot them very much.
Had a fire and lost everything I owned and laid off shooting a couple of years.
Getting back into shooting now but want to shoot handguns.
Been trying FAS type point shooting but not doing well at it. Read and re-read all the books but still having problems with shooting that way.
I am looking for books on QK but having problems finding any good info.
Is there a way to learn QK without a training class?
Due to age, limited income and physcial condition, I think a class would be too much for me to undertake at this time.

Anyone know of a book or vid on how to train for QK?
If anyway possible, I do want to take a class later if one comes up nearby my area( middle Ga.) but for now I want to try QK out.
Do you practice from a draw?
One hand or both?
Stiff arm or bent?
Raise arm lever style like FAS or thrush out from chest?

Thanks for any info.
Ken

Welcome aboard, Ken.

One of the QK gurus should be along shortly to answer your questions.

Ken, do a search on of "Quick Kill" on this site and you will see some threads asking the same questions. Look for books written by "Lucky McDaniels" and "Jim Gregg". Some of the threads have sites embeded that lead to information. Welcome to the site, alot of good guys here.

Ken if you will look at the top of this thread you will see a post called:
Handgun or Pistol Quick Kill {QK} Shooting Technique
This is a great article telling with words that can be seen as pictures in your mind how to do this technique.

This could be the best reading that is easy to understand that you may find.

Best Regards

Hi Ken,

Welcome to the forum. The link below will take you directly to the narrative on the pistol QK skill. After reading the linked narrative, if you have any questions, let us know, I'll be happy to try to resolve any questions you may have.

McDaniel never published anything on the pistol skills, and when I wrote the narrative on the "how to" for the pistol skills, it was the first of it's kind, hence the copyrights to the technique.

The rifle QK skill can be read in the US Army field manual from the 70's. A search online will give you the document in it's entirety. If you can't find it, I can send it to you via email, just let me know if you want it.

To get to your questions:

Do you practice from a draw?

Yes, most of the time.

One hand or both?

70-80% of the training is one handed, but two handed skills are also important.

Stiff arm or bent?

Both

Raise arm lever style like FAS or thrush out from chest?

Both, and also from the holster as soon as the muzzle can be brought to bear on the threat.

In shooting QK one handed,do you bring the pistol to the center of your body as in FAS or as in two handed QK or to the strong side?

Hi Ken,

With QK, I was trained to put the gun at nose to mouth level [ horizontal plane ] and centered on the eyes [ vertical plane ]. In this manner, you can shoot where you look as the gun hand/arm follows the turned head keeping the vertical and horizontal reference points.

I hope that makes sense.
