Greetings everyone. This weekend I plan on trying to teach myself the Handgun QK method. I've read Brownie's post regarding how it is done (and will have a printed copy with me), but I will only have limited ammo (approx. 100 to 130 rounds), so I was hoping that I could get a few pointers or suggestions on the best methods to learn the QK method by myself with such limited ammo. What sort of goal should I set? Is there one specific thing only that I should work on? I will be using my carry gun, a Kel Tec PF9, if anyone has experience with QK using the PF9 I would also greatly appreciate hearing from you.
Thanks and hopefully one of the QK instructors decides to hold a class in, or near, Missouri.

Hi! Welcome to Threat Focused!
Without really thinking about it, reach out and point your index finger at your target. Note where the tip of your index finger is in spatial relationship to the object at which you are pointing. While you should find that your finger is underneath your visual center (i.e. under your master eye), specifically note how far your index finger is below (i.e. vertical distance) the object. As you are learning handgun QK, you are basically putting the muzzle of your gun at the same place, spatially, as the tip of your finger.
Start with a target about 5 yards away. The target should have something on which you can focus your attention -- not simply a blank piece of cardboard. But if that is all you have, get a black marker and draw yourself a nice dark dot or bullseye. I'd recommend a LARGE target so that you can see your bullet holes in case the bullets do not initially go where you want them to hit. If at five yards, you're not finding your bullet holes on the target... there are probably other issues (e.g. grip, trigger control etc.) at play. If you're putting all the bullets on an 8.5"x11" sized sheet of paper area... that's a good start. In class, most shooters are getting all their rounds into an area covered by an outstretched hand, often fist sized.
Hope this helps. Feel free to ask questions, that's what this forum is all about.

Methos,
First, welcome to the forum, good to see you found your way here and are going to give this skill a run.
Shoot slow fire with your best two handed hold, Iso stance, gun at a level between your nose and mouth, barrel parallel to the ground. Concentrate on your trigger control to rule that out of the equation when looking at hits.
Find a spot on the target you want to hit, direct focus on that spot and using peripheral vision, place the end of the barrel [ front sight ] 2-3" below. Make sure you keep the barrel parallel to the ground [ many want to raise the muzzle to see the end of the barrel more which will throw the bullets higher unnecessarily.
If you are close to the mark you are trying to hit, keep shooting like that. If your bullets are striking higher than the mark you are trying to hit, lower the reference between the end of the barrel and the mark. If you are shooting lower than the mark, raise the reference a little.
Let us know how you make out with this after your range session.

I hope this is the right place for this question; it is guidence I'm seeking.
Brownie I noticed in those three videos you sent to me, I think it was on those three, that you were shooting at some steel plates that were on a stand of some type. I would like to start using steel plates such as those. Do you have any pics of those steel plates and stand that I could use to make my own? Or perhaps some directions on how to make them?
A few months ago when my computer was automatically downloading an update; it screwed up and wouldnt restart; I lost everything when I reinstalled my program; it was my fault I lost everything; I kept procrastinating about backing up the stuff on my puter. First thing I did when reinstalling my program was back up everything; and set it on auto backup. I just realized those 3 videos were also lost. I was going to look at them and try to figure out how to make those steel plate targets. Would you mind sending me those 3 videos once more? I sure would appreciate it.
Thanks
Ken
