OK guys, most of us here have collections that would rival many LEO armories, but we all have that one long gun that given the chance in a bad situation would be the one we'd pick over all the others.
So, here's your chance to tell us about your pride and joy.
Mine is my M-4, it sports a Aimpoint M-2 and Surefire 500 for low light target ID.
Some would say it's over crapped with do dads, but for me it's the perfect one weapon for most situation.
Good for CQB out to 300m, runs flawless, and a platform that I am very comfortable with.

The one on the right.
Custom M1a 7.62x51 [ .308 ] Desert Sage camo stock, Les Tam custom USMC leather sling with embossed EG+A It's the one on the right.
Ranging scope to 800 meters, flip two levers and thats off and reflip the levers and an ANPVS4 [ it's a 4x magnification ] is on top of it for operating in the dark.
Open sights from 50 to 300 yds standing
Scope and sling to 800
N/V to 300 in total darkness
The ONE rifle I'd take if I could only take one.
I guess it depends on what I'm going to it for,but I would say my Bushmaster AR. I bought this thing while the ban was still on.I'm thinking of ordering one of the shorty stocks for it as I don't care for collapsibles,to decrease weight somewhat. It also has the aggravating AK muzzle brake which I want to change out with a legal length flash suppresor as it's a 14 1/2 bbl. That AK brake is LOUD! The carbine itself has been 100% with everything, and very accurate. It wears a tactical sling from slingmaster.org.
He's a local guy,DA's investigator and second command for the SWAT team here.
It would have to be my M4. I like my A2...but the M4 has the advantage of being handy as all get-out.
I don't know if this voids my prior statement, but the rifle that was ALWAYS in my truck was a Rossi Model 1892 Winchester copy with the 16"bbl and "big loop", chambered in .357 along with a box of ammo and a 4" Smith & Wesson Model 66 and a pair of HKS Speedloaders.
Does that make me old fashioned?

I have two. First choice an old fashoned A2. The second is a slightly customized SKS. I like full size rifles or subs.

Odd, after considering this, I've discovered that I go Russian for my Go to guns.
#1 is an AK. Yes, it's a WASR-10, but I think I wound up with one of the few great ones that Century has released. So far it's accurate as an AK can be, runs perfectly and is just fine cosmetically.
#2&3 are SKS's. I've loved these guns for fifteen years. One is a carbine, and the other standard. Simple, easy to use, and perfect for their intended use.
#4 is a Mosin Nagant. Brute strong, again simple and easy to use, and can be used as a club, spear, and quarterstaff when it runs out of ammo. :D
I like Russian guns. Even I just can't seem to break 'em.

Doc, just noticed your phrase at the bottom. You "old timers" have always been an inspiration to me!:p

Given a choice I would grab my SA-85M that sports an Ace folder.
Given the above, what rides constantly in my truck is a 94 Wrangler in 32 Special with 100 rds in a grab pouch.

Hey G,
My Winny 94 30-30 rides in it's scabbard on the back seat of the truck 24/7 as well. It's there for times a pistol thats on me might not be the best choice based on distance needed or more horsepower on game animals encountered in the travels.
That 32 cartridge is an oldy but goody for sure. Nice piece and getting rare to see for the last decade or so.

B,
I'm a believer in the levers, much better received than some others if you need to whip it out among the sheep. ALso agree re extra horsepower.
I love my short Wrangler. If I walk with a limp I can carry it iwb. An added advantage with the 32 is you can pick up around 15% over a 30-30 reloading, if you want to push it.

Have to acknowledge the Levers myself. I have an 1894 Marlin Cowboy with octangular barrel and peeps. Holds 11 45LC and I shoot a reload that puts a 255 grn Rainer hard cast at 1500 fps. I keep it in my Suburban, along with a tuned Rugar Vaquero in 45 LC.
G. I've read so much good about that 32 I'm looking to get one. A short carbine model would be the perfect pack rifle. Good choice.
