1. Keep the hand below the gun while clearing the overgarment. This will allow a true scoop draw. Your hand came from above the gun to accomplish the draw, just like your old draw.
2. Eliminate the hesitation after clearing the garment. This may have been because your hand was above the gun and your subconscious was figuring which way to accomplish the draw. Clearing the overgarment just far enough for the hand to rise and complete the draw is sufficient.

I saw no major problems with the shooting.
I agree the clearing of the cover garmets and the actual draw was done without any urgency. As far as the draw is concerned, I agree with Gloves based on the type of holster that Steve typically uses benefits from the scoop draw the most.

Jim you and I are used to having to deal with thumb strap holsters which require a strong master grip to break the thumb strap. However, to get to the point where this draw is as fast as the scoop draw takes more work to reach the same level.

I agree with Dave. Its simply a locked position along with a consistent body stance. Consistency is the name of the game in shooting. That and luck

I'm gonna confess some real bad habits hear when I carried plain clothes.

1. I never carried secure. IN this I mean if the holster had a thumb break I cut it off. My favorite carry was Mexican or Yaqui holster. That is still my method with primary gun.

2. Shooting left handed I carried a cocked ready to shoot gun.

3. Most of the time my gun was already out.

I don't advise nor endorse any of these carry methods and they are my opinion only. But It saved me on more than one occasion. Got me in trouble
a few times too.

I now carry a 638 in a GP Yaqui holster. Change ammo between home and travel.

Jim
