Default xs sights?

Any CAR shooters here try the XS BigDot sights? I'm hearing good things about them and was wondering if the BigDot would get too big ( and block too much of the target ) when shooting extended. I still tend to shoot through my sights ( target focus, front sight blurry ) using the extended platform, at ranges under 30 feet or so. Seems like the BigDot might be helpful, but I don't know. What say you?

Though I don't use the CAR platform with the exception of two of the skills within, I have been given a set of XS big dot sights for one of the G17's I train with.

Got them through their senior sales rep who I met out at the 1" to 100 yds event http://www.threatfocused.com/forums/...ead.php?t=1711 in Laughlin, Nevada that our member Wes Doss put together in May of this year.

I like em, a lot. I was immediately capable of rapping 15 rds out the sales reps g19 with the xs express sights on it in at least as fast a time using threat focused QK onto a steel plate set 7 yrds out in front of us.

Later, we played with them to see how far the big dots were viable before they covered too much of the threat and became a liability instead of any advantage. I found I could rap a steel plate smaller than a mans chest out past 30 yds with ease with both Quick Kill threat focused skills and full sighted fire.

Furthest extended range using them with full sight picture was out to 50 yds on the plates with 80-85% hit rate with just fair speed. At that range I'd rather have my standard night sights, but suspect I'll be unlikely to ever have to use them past their advantaged range for self defense so-------

yes, I like them. Using the peripheral skill of Quick Kill, the big front dot gives me faster pick up on the end of the barrel peripherally.

Thanks Brownie. I'm going to have to shoot my buddies G19 in CAR extended, and full MI to see for my self. They do look promising............

I haven't used the "Big Dot" brand sights per se, but my new Taurus 1911
(Black PT1911. Very nice right out of the box for the price. All I did to it was add VZ Alien grips and polish the feedramp and barrel together) came through with Heinie Straight Eight night sights. Similar concept in sighting.

While the CAR System doesn't use any sights at all for close distances, you do start to pick up the front sight post for 5-7 yds and out, and the big front dot on the Heinies is very user friendly..I am sure the XS would serve in the same manner.

For those longer distances, the CAR system does use both front and rear sights, of course (Apogee Position.)

I find it interesting that there is a trend in new sights toward only alligning two items instead of the standard three.
